Boundless Life's Bali location is based in Sanur, a laid-back beach town on Bali's east coast known for its beachfront bike and walking path, calm waters, and family-friendly atmosphere. Bali as a whole offers vibrant culture, spirituality, yoga, bustling markets, temple ceremonies, and tropical island exploration.

Sanur sits apart from the tourist intensity of Kuta or the expat scene of Canggu, providing a quieter base while still being connected to everything Bali has to offer. This is the best-value location in the Boundless Life network and has the largest expat community of any Boundless site.

Cost of Living

  • Boundless package pricing (2026): From EUR 1,950/month for the Apr-Jun cohort (tuition and community programming). This is the cheapest Boundless Life location.
  • Day-to-day expenses are remarkably low. Family meals at local warungs run USD 4-25. Grab or GoJek rides cost under USD 1-2. Hour-long massages are available for about USD 6.
  • Amazon is not commonly used in Bali. Instead, families shop on Tokopedia, Indonesia's major e-commerce platform.
  • Healthcare is affordable and reliable. Dental work and medical checkups are common activities for expat families during their stay.

Worldschooling Programs & Hubs

Education Center (EC): A Balinese-style campus with multiple bungalow classrooms featuring covered porches arranged around a central green space. Includes a library and parent lounge. All rooms are air-conditioned. This EC layout is the favorite among families who have visited multiple Boundless locations. Montessori-style playground equipment is being added.

Status note (Q1 2026 Forum, watch this space): Boundless leadership confirmed at the Q1 2026 Forum that the global and local teams are actively working to extend access to the current Bali EC, which is the primary plan. If extension turns out not to be possible, the backup plan is to establish a new EC in Sanur (Elodie's "Senor" in the auto-transcript is almost certainly Sanur). This is not a confirmed change — current families and prospective families should expect the existing EC to continue operating, and any move would be communicated in advance. Community Hub: Boundless has contracted with Livit, a 4-story co-working space. It is a 25-minute walk or cheap Grab ride from the EC. Because of this distance, the Hub does not function as a central social gathering spot the way it does at other locations. Instead, the parent lounge at the EC serves as the informal hangout.

Community & Meetups

Bali hosts the biggest expat community of any Boundless location. Beyond the Boundless cohort itself, Sanur and greater Bali have numerous international schools, meetup groups, clubs, and family-oriented activities. Parents looking for professional networking, social events, or activity groups beyond the Boundless circle will find plenty of options.

The Boundless community building offers one housing option where families live together, fostering close bonds. Many families also arrange their own accommodations in beachside villas, creating a more distributed community.

Practical Info (visas, internet, safety, neighborhoods)

  • Visas: Indonesia offers a 30-day visa on arrival, extendable once for another 30 days. For a full cohort stay, visa runs are necessary. Common visa-run destinations include Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong — all offering short, affordable flights.
  • Internet: Better than expected. One family reported it was more reliable than their Australian home internet. Occasional power outages do occur.
  • Safety: Families report feeling very safe in Sanur and Bali generally. The main safety concern is motorbike traffic — always hold children's hands near roads.
  • Accommodations: A mix of the Boundless community building and self-arranged housing. The community building's location is not ideal for walkability. Many families prefer independently arranged beachside villas. Pool access is highly recommended given the heat and humidity.
  • Climate considerations: Hot and humid year-round. Expect to sweat. The rainy season (Jan-Mar) is actually quite manageable — rain typically falls hard at night and clears by morning.
  • Pererenan / outskirts strategy: Canggu and Uluwatu proper have become expensive and crowded. Stepping just outside — to Pererenan, or further afield — drops 1BR rents to roughly $300–$600/month, with similar local amenities and a quieter feel.   • Sep -- Nov: Dry season continues into September, transitioning toward the wet season by November. Warm and pleasant throughout.

Lombok / Senggigi: Quieter Alternative

  • Cost of living: ~$865–$1,000/month for a solo nomad, slightly cheaper than Bali.
  • Getting there: 4–6 hours by ferry from Bali, or a short flight. Senggigi (the main coastal town) is the most-recommended base.
  • Gilly Islands: Just 15 minutes by speedboat from Lombok — a notable side-trip option.
  • Trade-offs: Smaller digital-nomad community, less to do, slower pace. Internet and infrastructure are less developed than Bali. Rainy season runs November to March. Best as a 1–2 month getaway from Bali to save money and get focused work done — not necessarily a year-round base.
