Overview
Worldschool Pop-Up Hub organizes week-long mobile gatherings for worldschooling families in cities around the world. Founded by the Carlson Family in June 2021, the Hub reached its 100th event in July 2025 and continues to grow. Rachel runs everything as a one-woman operation.
The format is simple: a curated week-long itinerary highlighting local offerings in a given city, with a host to facilitate connections among 7-12 families (occasionally 25 or more). Families retain full autonomy over their schedules and can participate in as much or as little of the itinerary as they choose. The philosophy is encapsulated in the motto "Drop the Back Story," meaning there is no need to justify your lifestyle choices or educational approach. There are no prerequisites to attend.
Communication happens through WhatsApp and Google Maps. Each event has a private Facebook Group. A photo release is required with no opt-out option.
Locations & Dates
Pop-up events are published three to five months in advance. The Hub operates globally, with events spanning every continent.

Ages & Format
The Pop-Up Hub welcomes families with children of all ages. One of the program's strengths is multi-age play: kids connect across age boundaries naturally during the week, and teens especially benefit from meeting peers in the worldschooling community.
Each event runs for one week with a flexible, host-curated itinerary. The host is present throughout to facilitate introductions and coordinate activities, but attendance at any particular activity is optional. Typical group size is 7-12 families.

What Families Say
Families consistently praise the low-pressure format and the quality of connections formed in just one week. The multi-age dynamic is frequently highlighted as a standout benefit, with children forming meaningful friendships across age groups. Parents appreciate the curated itinerary as a way to experience a new city without the stress of planning everything themselves. The affordable price point makes it accessible to families across a wide range of budgets.
The "Drop the Back Story" philosophy resonates with families who are tired of defending or explaining their lifestyle choices. Many families attend multiple pop-ups across different cities, treating the Hub as a recurring touchpoint in their travels.
Compared To
The Worldschool Pop-Up Hub sits at the opposite end of the spectrum from programs like Boundless Life or Field School of Hvar. There is no education component, no housing, and no long-term commitment. The value proposition is purely social: a lightweight, affordable way to meet other worldschooling families for a week. Compared to organizing meetups independently, the Hub provides structure and a vetted host without requiring families to do the planning work.
For families who want to host their own events, the Hub offers the option to rent existing itineraries or create new ones with Hub support.
